Galena Park is a city located in Harris County, Texas. It is a part of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metro area. Galena Park is home to a variety of different neighborhoods, and its population is estimated to be approximately 17,000 people. Galena Park was first settled in 1824 by Ezekiel Thomas. Thomas obtained land from the Mexican government and started farming in the area. In 1835, Thomas died. The town was originally a farming and ranching community, but after 1876, the area began to grow as a railroad center along the Port of Houston. The town's name has been changed from Clinton to Galena Park over the last 100 years. The town was originally known as Clinton, but a post office was later established in the town. Forty-seven percent of people were under the age of 18, thirty-one percent were between the ages of 18 and 24, and nine percent were over 65 years of age. The median age was 28 years. There were 17.0% of non-families living in the city, while one in every ten households contained someone over the age of 65. The average household size was 3.47 people, and the average family size was three-and-a-half.
